The following topics from Chapter Eight are important and exam-worthy:

Part 1

  • Define Learning and Understand the definition
  • Define Habitiuation and Understand the definition; be able to contrast habituation to learning
  • Who was John B Watson?
  • Be able to identify studies that focus on behavior as opposed to other psychological variables or constructs
  • Know Ivan Pavlov’s Experiment as described on pp. 316 and 317 of the textbook
  • Especially be able to recognize and understand the following terms
    • Classical conditioning
    • Unconditioned Stimulus
    • Unconditioned Response
    • Conditioned Stimulus
    • Conditioned Response
    • Acquisition
    • Extinction
  • Know that re-acquisition of a learned behavior is faster than initial acquisition of that same learned behavior.  What practical examples?
    • “I haven’t done it in years, but I picked it up almost immediately.”
    • Bad habits can resume with the same intensity as they had when initial efforts to extinguish them began
    • If addiction is “drug seeking behavior,” then what implications for addiction?
