Week 7 Monday, 3/2 Design notebook images Discuss and turn in technology and universal design assignments. Residential Design Project - project introduction The design project will encompass at least three adjoining or grouped rooms of a client's home. Examples include:
Project can be new construction or remodel (most likely remodel). There is no minimum/maximum requirement for project scope; however, simpler projects will be critiqued/graded more critically than complex projects. See the Course Calendar for the project timeline. Client presentations will be 4/6-4/8; contract documentation will follow client approval of design. Client Recruitment Students are responsible for finding their own clients. Your client can be a neighbor, friend, or family member, but not someone you live with (you cannot live in your own project house). The project must be something the client actually wants to do, though not necessarily immediately. The client must take this project seriously. The client must be available on either 4/6 or 4/8 for their presentations, and must be willing to give honest opinions, both favorable and critical. The project cannot be discussed with the client other than during the client interview process. Assignment: Recruit your project client. Complete and sign client agreement. Due Wednesday. Wednesday, 3/4 Project Statement The project statement is typically the definition of the project. The project statement ensures that the client and designer agree on the scope of the project. Example:
Include only the core information, not the details. Those will be discovered during the client interview. Programming Phase Programming includes research and analysis of the project goals. Client interview - Site research Legal research - ascertain the jurisdiction of the project, and acquire the contact information for the code department or official for the jurisdiction. Research what is required for the jurisdiction based on the scope of the project. Examples:

Monday, 3/9, will be a work day to complete these phases of the project. All information must be neatly and profesionally written. Photos should be printed with descriptive captions included. Print, staple, and turn in copies (no originals) of these documents on 3/11. Projects will be discussed in class. |
