- Definition
Develop the project statement; insure that designer and client agree on scope. - Programming
Reseach and analysis; site issues, code issues, cost issues; client interviews. - Conceptualization
Define the "soul" of the project; space planning and diagramming - Development
Refine conceptual design into preliminary design; critique; further refine preliminary design; client presentation and approval; construction drawings and specifications; ready to build - Implementation
Bid process and construction; finish with post-occupancy evaluation and commissioning
Integrated design
Integrated design is a process of design that integrates a building "team" - designers, builders, and even subcontractors - so all understand the overall concept and how each part relates to the whole
- Especially important in green design, as the building is a system
- All team members are in the process all the way through
