- Visit one of the neighborhoods discussed. Take pictures and make notes of good and bad neighborhood design choices. Turn in next Monday, 2/9.

Sustainable development, LEED-ND, Design project Part 1
Types of sites
- Greenfield - Agricultural or undeveloped land
Example - most of Frisco
- Brownfield - Land already developed, but improvements are past useful life or are problematic. Brownfield sites sometimes have ecological issues, such as toxins in the soil.
Example: Victory Development (link to article); Love Canal (bad example)
- Greyfield - vacant or dying mall
- Infill - Undeveloped land surrounded by development. Infill sites can be either greenfield or brownfield.
Example: Haggard Farm in Plano
- Redevelopment - Existing development that is reused.
Example: Interurban building in Dallas (link to property information)
LEED-ND points regarding site selection
Local LEED-ND pilot projects:
Assignment:
- Students will use available resources to find sites for the class to consider for development. Sites will be compared using LEED-ND guidelines. Information to be presented to the class Monday includes:
- Site location on map with boundaries noted
- Satellite image of site
- Greenfield/brownfield/infill
- Approximate size and dimensions
- Similar LEED-ND pilot project
