Week 11 Materials Database Format Discuss what everyone came up with for "checkbox items" for each of the categories we decided on last week. Download categories in Word format. Decide on a final format for the database, with the understanding that it will grow and change over time. Come up with a "division of labor" for research, and a plan and time frame for the database construction. Ability to grade the work should be a consideration. Assignment: Download the Material Research Blank document. Research at least 6 different materials in your assigned category and complete a separate sheet for each. Next week, November 10, is a research workday for this assignment. Bring the completed sheets to class on November 17. Save each file using the material name as the file name, and e-mail them to me as well. Try to focus on local materials if you can locate them. Include an array of materials if possible. Search the certification databases to check for third-party certifications (see green links page). If including more than one material from a single manufacturer, you should be able to complete more than 6 sheets. For example, Armstrong makes several different types of flooring. If a material has more than one use, include that information in the description section, as well as a general description of the material (no plagiarism, this will be published online eventually). The notes section is for any information that does not apply to another section. Obtain or request samples of all materials researched for the sample room. When contacting a manufacturer by e-mail, tell them that you are working on a materials database for the Interior and Architectural Design Department at Collin College, and use your Collin e-mail. E-mail me with any questions. |
