Guitar I (MUSI 1192) Pre-requisite: None |

Guitar I class is designed for the beginner. It covers the basics of playing guitar. It includes playing posture, tuning, reading music, different strokes, 15 chords, arpeggios, chromatic scale. Students will be playing introductory solo/ensemble pieces in the 1st position including sharps (#) and flats (b). |
Guitar II (MUSI 1193) Pre-requisite: Guitar I or permission from the instructor |

Continuation of Guitar I. Students will learn major scales, slurs, bar chords, arpeggios, 2nd, 3rd and 5th positions (up to 8th fret of the fingerboard) as well as pieces with multiple voices (melodic lines). |
Guitar III (MUSI 2192) |

Continuation of Guitar II. In Guitar III, students learn two more positions (7th & 9th) to complete the fingerboard, extended major scales, natural & artificial harmonics, different tuning methods, ornaments (such as trills, grace notes, mordents) and also more technical exercises to enhance the playing ability. |
Guitar IV (MUSI 2193) |

Completion of the class guitar instruction series. Students learn minor scales, more advanced repertoire and advanced effects/techniques (tremolo, pizzicato, rasgueados, glissando, tambora, etc.) |
Guitar Ensembles (MUEN 1137-S01 and MUEN 1137-S70) |

Students learn to play in a group. Different parts (voices) will be assigned to play along with other students. |
