Welcome to Collin County Community College District's Beginning Algebra Course, Online!   This course is offered in a modified self-paced format.  This means you may complete any of the assignments or exams prior to the calendar date deadlines.

(Is this online class right for you?)

I am Dr. Karr and will be your professor for Math 0305.  Most of this course will be communicated via computer.  However, ALL 4 EXAMS (bring a scantron) and the final examination (bring blue book and scantron to the final exam) are scheduled on campus in the SCC TESTING CENTER.  At those times, you will need to come to campus.  All lab assignments are due by 5 p.m. on the stated day of the indicated week. The exams need to be taken at least 1 hour prior to the Testing Center closing. Please email me to let me know you have completed the exam.  I will pick it up, grade it, and forward your grade.

For Math0305, you will need the following textbook, MyMathLab student access code, instructor provided course code, and a graphing calculator.  (Note: There is a CD Lecture Series available which provides computer video lectures of each topic).

ISBN 0-536-440093 for package

1) Text: Introductory Algebra by Elayn Martin-Gay, Prentice-Hall Publishers, 3rd Edition. (Click here for a video introduction.) You need Window Media Player to view the video.  If you have DSL, it might take up to 3 minutes to download this video file. A dial up connection is not recommended. Click here to download a free Window Media Player 10.

2) CD: Lecture series comes packaged with the textbook.  This is an important resource.

3) MyMathLab, a computerized software tutorial, can be accessed with the code that comes packaged with the textbook.  Be sure to get the COURSE code from your instructor before using the MyMathLab registration instructions with the link on the left.  That document contains detailed steps regarding registering for the computerized homework.  Although homework is not collected, this gives the student valuable explanations of some of the material.

4) Because there are problems on your assignment sheet that are not contained in the computerized product, I encourage you to do the homework on the homework assignment sheet found through the link on the left.

5) The 10 labs assigned for a grade are NOT on the MyMathLab website. They are meant to provide 10 points of contact with your instructor.

6) Graphing Calculator: A TI-83/Plus or TI-84  is preferred.

For your reference, this is a great graphing calculator website:http://www.msubillings.edu/asc/graphing_calculators.htm

Note:  If AOL is your ISP, minimize the AOL screen and use Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 4 or higher.

Please read through the syllabus and calendar.  Then, email me and let me know that you are enrolled in the course.  All future announcements will be sent to you via email.  I hope this will be a successful semester for you.  If I can be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.  rkarr@ccccd.edu or phone 972-881-5865.
