Section 6.3 INTERCEPTS
Objectives
  1. Identify intercepts of a graph.
  2. Graph a linear equation by finding and plotting intercept points.
  3. Identify and graph vertical and horizontal lines.
Terminology

x-intercept

y-intercept

Finding x- and y-Intercepts

To find the x-intercept, let y = 0 and solve for x.

To find the y-intercept, let x = 0 and solve for y.

Vertical Line

The graph of x = c, where c is a real number, is a vertical line with x-intercept c.

Horizontal Line

The graph of y = c, where c is a real number, is a horizontal line with y-intercept c.
