The United States is one of the most diverse countries in the world and
is becoming more so. This assignment involves learning more about other people by
comparing your thoughts to theirs. In this
project you will take the role of a candidate for the U.S. Congress. As
such, you are interested in the opinions of voters and will carry out a survey
as described below. Your
project must be completed and turned in at the
beginning of class on the day of the first exam.
To complete your project you
must do the following (in order):
- Answer the questions below and record your answers in
writing.
- Select three different classmates to interview. (Your selections
must vary in gender, race, country of origin, and
age.)
- Ask your classmates the same questions you answered
and record their answers.
- After you have finished your interview share your
answers with that classmate and discuss with them why your views might have been different or the same.
- Ask that person if they would vote for you or not and
why.
- Summarize what you learned from your classmates and
comment on whether or not you were surprised by what people’s real
attitudes were versus what you may have perceived them to be.
- Comment on what you might do or change to get more
votes.

your classmates’ answers and your summary.
