Frequently Asked Questions:

enrolled. If you do not contact me you may be dropped from the class.

Q.2
Do I have to have an email account in order to take this class?
A.2 Yes, it is a pre-requisite of this class that you
have a working email account at all times during the semester. All information provided to students will be through email only.
If you
change email accounts or yours goes off-line you must notify me right away.
Please include your name with all of your emails, your return email address
is not sufficient if it does not contain your first and last name. If
you are registered under a different last name than you go by then please
use the name under which you are registered. If you can't afford an
email account you may use the college computers and set up a free email
account through Cougarmail. (Back)
Q.3
Is this a Blackboard (WebCT) class or not?
A.3 The college is moving all online classes to Blackboard (formerly
WebCT) and as such all of this course information is available on
Blackboard. However, in order to protect both your work and mine, I
will be running a duplicate site at
http://iws.ccccd.edu/pdawson/ and you may access the course at that site
as well. (Back)
Q.4 How can I get a hold of the instructor
away from class?
A.4 See the information under About Me for office hours and room
number.
Q.5
How should I review for exams?
A.5 Read your study guide for tips on reviewing for
exams. Take the practice tests and go over the Test Review on this
website. I am always available for personal help if you want to come to
my office during office hours. (Back)
Q.6
Is there anything else I must do for this class other
than what is outlined on the website?
A.6 The only requirements for the class are those listed in the study guide
and project instructions. The only required work is that you take the
three exams and turn in the project. These are the only things you will
be graded on. Anything else you do, for example, take the practice
tests, is to help you get ready for the exams and will not count toward your
grade. (Back)
Q.7
When and where do I take my tests?
A.7 All tests must be taken in the Spring Creek Campus Testing Center during
the times assigned in the Class Calendar. Tests will not be available in
the other testing centers. If you are taking the course from a
distant location, i.e., not in North Texas, then you must inform me
immediately so that an alternate exam location may be arranged.

Q.8
How will I get my grades on the tests and project?
A.8 Your grades will be posted on Blackboard. If you take the test on the first day of the exam
period it may be up to a week before you receive
your grade. Do not email me for your grade unless it does not show
up on Blackboard by five days after the exam period closes. Grades
will not be given out over the telephone. If your grade does not
appear on Blackboard you may receive your grade by emailing the instructor as
follows:
Q.9 I think you graded my test wrong, what can I do?
A.9 You are welcome to come by my office during
office hours and I will let you look at your scantron along with an answer key
and a copy of the test. If you find that I have made a mistake, I will
gladly change your grade. (Back)
Q.10
Where can I find information for my
stock project?
A.10 The internet contains volumes of financial information. You can
simply search under your stock's name or go to any website that gives out market
index information, i.e., aol, msn, fnn, cnn, any brokerage firm website,
etc. It is perfectly okay to use information from a website or other
reference, but you must quote your sources. Using
someone else's information as your own is plagiarism and, if you are caught
doing so, you will receive a zero on your project. Even if
properly attributed, using another's writing as a substitute for your
original writing on parts of the project that ask for your opinion, description,
or
summarization will result in a lower grade. (Back)
Q.11
Will you be
emailing me frequently?
A.11 The answer is "no". While I may email individual students once
and awhile, and all of you rarely, my main way of communicating with you is
via the announcement board. I will, of course, respond to all emails
you send me. Normal response time is within 48 hours, weekend response time
is within 72 hours. (Back)
Q.12
How do I evaluate the class and the instructor?
A.12 You should receive an email in your Cougarmail account from
PostCourse.com giving you instructions for completing a course evaluation. That
email contains a link to the evaluation as well as the user ID and password for
each student. (Back)
