Live performance review
value: up to 25 points extra credit
Visit a live performance and write an opinion-paper based on your experience.
This performance must take place during the course of this semester.
You should attend a performance outside of your usual scope of interests.
You are encouraged to take notes during and/or immediately following the performance.
Any musical/theatrical performances hosted sponsored by Collin College are automatically approved.
*All other requests must be submitted in advance and in writing, email preferred. Make requests early.
ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSION
1) turn-in proof of your visit in class (ticket, program, receipt, photo, supplemental sketches, etc.)
2) submit a short, reflective essay detailing your museum experience and addressing the questions below via WebCT.
ESSAY OBJECTIVES
This is a "review", meaning that a summary is NOT enough. You must offer your opinion.
State a clear overall opinion on the quality of the performance.
Describe in detail a segment of the performance that left a strong impression on you.
Evaluate each element, and use descriptions to support of your overall opinion.
Reviewing a theatrical performance
For a play, musical or dance concert, describe and evaluate the following elements:
stage design
lighting
costumes
the opening of the show
at least 2 performances (provide names and roles of performers)
Reviewing a musical concert
For an *approved musical concert, describe and evaluate the following elements:
musical genre(s)
pace and sequence of pieces
audience reception of pieces
the opening of the show
at least 2 performances (provide names and pieces)
*Use of plays or musical concerts outside of CCCC for this assignment must be approved by the instructor.
Assignments will be graded based upon the quality of thought and effort applied to these instructions.
