How do I find a book if I know the author's name?"

Step 1. Open the Library web page

Step 2. Click on the campus you want under Our Library Catalog:

SCC for the Spring Creek library catalog

PRC for the Preston Ridge library catalog

CPC for the Central Park library catalog

[When the Library catalog has opened, your screen will look like this: There will be blue bar across the top of the page.)

Step 3. Type the author's name in the "Author Keyword" box.

Step 4. Click on the red GO button to retrieve all materials which match the key words you entered.

It does not matter if you capitalize the name: "mark twain" finds the same number of items as "Mark Twain". However, correct spelling is critical. "mark twain" has 337 related items, whereas "mark tain" has none. If you are finding no items using an author search, check your spelling again.

Step 5. Once you have your search results, be sure to write down the "call number" of the book you want. This is the string of letters and numbers which appears on the spine of the book on the shelf, and is the number we will use to find the book for you when you request it.
