THE SERVICE LEARNING TASK OPTION:

 

 

    An Alternative Task, “A Service Learning Experience,” may be available. In this task you contract to work/serve in a public agency for a designated time period through the CCCC Service learning program. A written report is required.  See the professor for details.

A democratic society requires citizens to be active participants in the community and society. Students have the option to participate in a community service or advocacy organization during the semester.  The professor offers a list of participating organizations.

 

·        A minimum of 15 hours of documented service is required during the semester.

 

·         The student must identify three learning objectives.

 

·         The student must keep a log of time volunteered.

 

·         The student must keep a reflective journal containing a description of the participatory activities; how the activities relate to politics, government, and political science; and how the activities relate to the learning objectives.

 

·        The journal is due no later than November 26, 2003.

 

If you are interested in participating:

 

1.        Pick up a student packet from the Social Science Division Office in Room B240 (SCC).

 

2.        Choose a site for participation.

 

3.        Make an appointment to visit the professor to discuss your choice.

 

4.        Contact the appropriate site person and set up a time for your service.
