FIELD TRIP!
One of your required assignments for this class is a
museum or fine arts live performance “Field Trip” and accompanying
review worth 100 points.
Step One:
Choose an approved museum or fine
arts live performance field trip!
Go to: http://iws.ccccd.edu/cpclrc/cultural.html
for a comprehensive list of options.
Anything listed under museums, dance,
music, or theatre all work – including Collin College or UTD plays,
concerts, etc. Note: FILMS DO NOT COUNT! Keep
your ticket stub, brochure, or other proof of attendance to staple to your
review. Consider going with
classmates and/or family and making a day or evening of it! Be sure to bring a notepad though!
If you have questions about a field trip option not
on this approved list of categories, please discuss your ideas with me before you take the field
trip. If you write about an unapproved
field trip, you risk receiving a zero or greatly reduced points for this
assignment.
Step Two:
Have fun on your field trip! Check out the details first. For instance, if planning a trip to the DMA,
go to www.dallasmuseumofart.org
and find out when admission is FREE or when the special Starbucks events take
place! Remember to keep
your ticket stub, brochure, or other proof of attendance to staple to your
review.
Step Three:
In a 2 page MLA style article, “review” your field
trip as if you were writing for a local college publication. As an example, if you choose to visit a
museum, be sure to include a brief background on the museum, its size and
structure, and any special exhibition currently on site. Be a keen observer of the entire museum and
its attractions, taking time to write about at least one special collection or single piece of art that, in
your opinion, stands out. See the link below to help you discuss the art you’ve
chosen to discuss. Other links/resources
for writing a review are listed below as well.
After you have concluded your “review,” please
add a separate paragraph at the end labeled “Personal
Reaction,” in which you freely discuss what you personally
garnered from your field trip. Did you
learn anything new about yourself, your tastes, and/or the humanities in general? Would you repeat this type of trip?
Step Four:
Turn it in by the due date on the calendar! Enjoy your expanded view of the world!
