Frequently asked questions about Mass Comm on the Web!

1) Q: Are there any exams given in the Testing Center for this course?

A: No. This course has a grade based on questions/answers and projects sent in by hard copy or by e-mail.

2) Q: Do I have to be in the Plano vicinity to take this course?

A: No. As long as projects are sent in by the due date in whatever method (see above), this course can be taken from remote locations.

3) Q: I've never taken a Web class before, so I'm not sure how this works.

A: Web courses may be completely different in administration, policy, and requirements. Mass Comm on the Web, for instance is VERY different from Fundamentals of Speech on the Web, so it is wise to ask about individual course procedures. In the case of this course, Web content is the equivalent of in-class lectures; your textbook serves the same function as it usually does. Questions answered to me in e-mail are based on Web content and text material. Projects also are based on both.

4) Q: How do I interact with the instructor?

A: Most frequently by e-mail: ccharleson@ccccd.edu
Please put in the subject line -- COMM 1307 Web plus any other information you like. Then write in the body of the e-mail whatever you need to include.
Ex. Subject: COMM 1307 Web question about course

5) Q: Is there an orientation I have to go to at Spring Creek Campus?

A: No. Orientation materials are online, including a Pretest that evaluates your understanding of the Web and of the course. That orientation is available the first day classes start for the semester.

6) Q: When should I get started with the course?

A: As soon as the semester begins, but no earlier. Ideally you should start Web courses the first day the semester begins, as with traditional courses.

7) Q: What is the textbook?

A: Media Impact, by Shirley Biagi. 8th edition. Thomson. ISBN: 0-495-05026-1 wingding.jpg - 1220 Bytes
