ANNOUNCEMENTS Welcome! I've constructed this site to be an all-in-one stop for any information you'll need to be successful in your respective chemistry class. I typically use this section to keep you informed of what you should be doing in the next class meeting and to highlight any changes to the regular schedule. If you have any questions, call or email me. |

Chemistry--it's all around you. Have you ever heard someone say, "Chemistry is life"? It actually isn't all that inaccurate of a statement. Mind you, there are many other fields that can be considered, but you could definitely argue that it all starts with chemistry. One could start by simply asking, "What makes water what it is?" For many complex organisms, the oxidation and reduction reactions involved in cellular respiration, the balance of sodium and potassium ions involved in triggering action potentials, and the oxygen-binding ability of hemoglobin in the blood are just a few examples of essential processes directly affected by properties of the chemical species involved. Can you identify how chemistry is related to things happening around you? Chemistry can be many temperatures, colors, textures, sounds, flavors, and scents. Chemistry can be just about anything you want it to be, but most importantly, it can be fun!
