Eighth century: Beowulf written. Britain at this time is Christian, organized, and controlled by an aristocratic civilization. When the Germanic and Scandanavian tribes, such as the Geats and the Danes invaded Britain, they brought their stories with them, one of which was the story of a hero, Beowulf.
